A Study of Modern Eco-Friendly Composite (Geopolymer) Based on Blast Furnace Slag Compared to Conventional Concrete Using the Life Cycle Assessment Approach

By posing the question of what will be definition sustainable development in future, it can almost seen that principle “no waste” and production new materials with less a negative environmental impact have high priority. To further develop environmentally friendly materials, is necessary to know about drivers as well evaluate effects conventional construction. According definitions characteristics such having low energy consumption, sufficient durability, good physical chemical properties, while simultaneously reducing pollution should used. Geopolymer may reasonable option. In this research, two processes based on blast furnace slag ordinary concrete (Portland cement) for one cubic meter geopolymer been investigated. investigate, inputs (materials energy) outputs (relevant pollutants) both systems were determined life cycle assessment (LCA) was measured using Center Environmental Science Leiden University (CML) cumulative exergy demand (CED) quantification methods SimaPro V.9 software. The results showed system has maximum all classes except destruction ozone layer, producing much than normal system. It also consumes 62% directly during its lifetime. As result, suitable alternative traditional material.
